LEGAL DISCLAIMER:

THIS WEBSITE PROVIDES GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRACTICE OF LAW IN NEVADA ONLY AND IS NOT INTENDED TO GIVE LEGAL ADVICE.  ALWAYS CONSULT AN ATTORNEY.

Lawyers in Nevada attend on average 20 years of school before they may take the bar exam, which is a test that must be passed before a lawyer can be fully licensed in Nevada.  The exam is taken over four days and tests up to 20 areas of basic competancy including the following legal topics:

            • agency
            • partnership
            • community property
            • conflict of laws
            • constitutional law
            • contracts
            • corporations
            • criminal law
            • criminal procedure
            • domestic relations (family law)
            • evidence
            • legal ethics
            • civil procedure
            • real property
            • remedies
            • torts
            • sales
            • negotiable instruments
            • secured transactions
            • wills, trusts, and estates.

Upon full licensure, most lawyers practice in only one or a few of the above areas.  Some register with the State Bar of Nevada that they "focus" in the areas, and some, after fufilling certain criteria, register that they "specialize".

Lawyers may also practice in other areas that are not tested, including water law, Native American Law, probate law, maritime law, environmental law, administrative law, international law, and many other areas.

Lawyers can be licenced in several states at one time and can also be licensed to represent clients in Federal courts.
